 I  began playing music as a youngster around the age of eight, my three older siblings all played and or sang, as did my mother, father and grandparents. I remember singing at coffee shop “Hootenannies” with my brother and sisters. I learned guitar watching them play and borrowing one of their guitars when they weren’t looking. I began violin in elementary school but soon went to drums in the school band. I enjoyed singing and playing guitar in church. While camping in Yosemite I met an amazing guitar player and songwriter named Don Humphries. Don, Les Choy, Peter Tilton, David Wiltie and I formed a band called The Daydreamer's Ball. That was my “Bluegrass College” where I learned to flat-pick bluegrass guitar, picked up the fiddle, and started playing some mandolin and Dobro. I will always be grateful to Don for not only turning me on to Bluegrass but also helping me to grow as a songwriter. I have been happy to have made a living as a musician ever since. I have lived in San Diego since 1972, played in countless bands. Who remembers The KCBQ Flatbed Band followed by The KSON Flatbed Show? How about Beau Weevil, Tall Cotton, Dakota, Coyote? I could go on! At one time, there was enough work in San Diego’s dance halls to support many country bands. In 1993, I was honored to be named San Diego’s CCMA Fiddler of the Year! You may have seen me as Sea World’s Dolphin Show host and emcee, playing and singing for thousands of visitors each day for several years.

I continue to play at Sea World and provide talent for their private parties and special events. I have a project studio in my home where I do digital multi-track recording, CD mastering and multimedia production. Go to Cunningham Productions for more information.

I am fortunate to be a member of several groups including, Lighthouse, a Southern California Bluegrass band, The Jackstraws, a multifaceted eclectic acoustic group, Harmony Grove, a country/variety band, Grassology, an educational performing group. I also play with a Las Vegas based tribute show called Superstars Live in Concert, and Adventures in Parrotdise, a Jimmy Buffett tribute.
